Koko-Urko, which in the extinct language of the Coconucos means "the road to the underworld where the spirits live" is an immersion in the sound around the Puracé Volcano, located in the south of Cauca, in the paramo of the Coconucos at 4,646 meters above sea level. The paramo includes complex water systems, paramo forests and the Puracé volcanic chain with 13 craters. Innumerable crystalline water springs, thermal and sulfur waters, emerge from the interior of the mountains forming: lagoons, wells, streams and huge waterfalls; its sound is placidly contained in lagoons or falls vertiginously in the waterfalls of San Juan, San Antonio or Las Monjas, mingling with the sounds coming from countless insects, birds and the strong wind that shakes the mountains.
The active volcano of Puracé, constitutes the physical space of the indigenous reservation that inhabits it and has been considered sacred by them; it reveals and worries because of the uncertainty that brews under its skirts: fire and water confront each other in its interior and exterior. A fragile and at the same time powerful system. The feminine-masculine polarities, interior and exterior, up and down, that this space entails, configure the foundations of the population. Koko-Urko, “el camino al inframundo donde habitan los espíritus” was a sound immersion during 15 days, with an ascent to 4,646 meters above sea level, to the Puracé crater, traveled through the mine tunnels to establish a dialogue with its inhabitants and workers, to listen to their stories, to record the extractive activities inside, in contrast with the multiple natural sounds of the paramo and to enter the road to the underworld where the spirits live.

El sonido es más enigmático que la imagen, pues se da en el tiempo y en lo fugaz, cuando la visión permanece fija y resulta explorable”.
